The Southwest Alabama Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, Inc. was officially chartered in Monroeville, Alabama, on April 29, 2004. Cynthia R. Boyd, Past Southern Regional Director, performed the ceremony and was assisted by the Past North Alabama Coordinator, Celeste Morgan-Russell.

Prior to chartering, service projects were completed in  in Clarke, Monroe, and Wilcox counties. One service project included the Back-to-School Bash in Wilcox County. The service projects continued with participation in Monroe County's Heritage Festival by encouraging and facilitating voter education and registration. Additionally, information on health and wellness was circulated with the administering of blood pressure checks. Service projects also included the donation of dinners to families in need to address the hunger crisis in each county.

After chartering, one major undertaking was the facilitation of political forums in Clarke, Monroe, and Wilcox counties.  The charter members are from Wilcox, Monroe, and Clarke counties. The service areas initially included those of the charter members in Clarke, Monroe, and Wilcox.  Subsequently, the service area was widened to include Conecuh and Marengo counties.  Incidental to recent growth, the service area is now inclusive of the four counties of Clarke, Conecuh, Monroe, and Wilcox counties.
